03 Feb 09 Feature: The economy of piracy: How game publishers are killing the PC

(Credit: Craig Simms) OPINION | For as long as I can remember, the media has talked about the death of the PC as a gaming platform. The latest hot console comes out with comparable graphics, and the doomsayers dust off their placards and start chanting. The arguments have always been purely technical: the games look and sound better - or at least are close enough to the PC at a fraction of the cost. Then the PC gets its regular upgrade, the latest killer title, and PC owners pick up their m

26 Dec 08 [Feature] Why the Xbox “NXE” update was ruined for m

The latest Xbox 360 system update went live recently. I love it, it’s great. It’s opened up a world of possibilities for the Xbox 360 when you look at it in regards to a social gaming platform. But I really feel underwhelmed about it all. Why? Because none of it is a “new experience” to me. I feel as if I have seen it all before. Microsoft had cons

24 Dec 08 PlayStation 3 to Cost Less to Produce?

We all know that getting a Wii or an Xbox is cheaper than purchasing a PS3. Why is that? Well Sony’s jewel costs $448.73 to produce and its most expensive setup is sold at $399. Which means Sony is hardly making any money off the gaming platform. And they weren’t making any money in the past either. Back when a PS3 was sold at $599 the building build for one PS3 rose as high as $840. Should Sony focus on a new generation? Should they get some spies inside that Nintendo building? Nintendo is c

Here is a comparison between a PC (GeForce GTX 280 + quad-core Intel Core 2 CPU), a XBox 360 and a Playstation 3. The following games have been used: Fallout 3, Dead Space, Call of Duty: World at War and Grand Theft Auto IV. From this test, the PC is definitely the best gaming platform as you can see on all screenshots: high resolution, high quality textures, lighting, etc. Call of Duty: World at War: CoD: PC version. CoD: XBox 360 version. CoD: PS3 version. Grand Theft Auto

tau Hideo Kojima is on board. John Carmack is on board. Yoot Saito is on board. And though many will note his historic opposition to gaming, Steve Jobs himself is on board too. What do these individuals and companies like Electronic Arts, Sega, Gameloft, Namco Bandai, Konami and more have in common? 15 Dec 08 What Makes the Xbox 360 Such a Great Choice For a Video Game Console

What Makes the Xbox 360 Such a Great Choice For a Video Game Console
By Zak Mann

Just playing the Xbox 360 will be enough to show you what makes the Xbox 360 such a great choice for the discriminating gamer. Its state of the art features have to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

When Microsoft designed the Xbox 360, their goal was to offer a gaming platform which would allow each player to have a unique experience, rather than simply to beat the game. With Xbox 360 games each player’s playing style and the decisions they make in the course of a game influence the way the game plays out. The player becomes the center of the experience instead of the game.

To go along with its unique approach to gaming, this video game console has raised the bar in console gaming with surround-sound audio and high-definition video. You don’t need to have HDTV to benefit from the rich graphics. But if you do have it, get ready for an experience that far surpasses what any other console offers.

With online competition a major piece in future video game development, you can’t go wrong with Xbox 360. Since Microsoft has their name on this system, you know that they take pride in offering an unmatched online service.

There are two versions of Xbox Live. With Silver, you can download trailers, demos, Xbox Live Arcade games, and chat with friends. The Gold version also allows you to compete online with other gamers. Xbox Live lets you use one nickname for every game, and keep a list of your favorite gaming competitors.

And if that’s not enough to convince you about what makes the Xbox 360 such a great choice, consider that you have access to upwards of 1000 game titles. You can also play certain games from the original Xbox series, as well as viewing DVD movies.
